Glossary

Integrated management : A commitment to planning and managing human activities in a comprehensive manner while considering all factors necessary for the conservation and sustainable use of marine resources and the shared use of ocean spaces.1
Marine Protected Area : A clearly defined geographic space, recognized, dedicated and managed through legal or other effective means, to achieve the long-term conservation of nature with associated ecosystem services and cultural values.2
Precautionary approach : Erring on the side of caution.3
Sustainable development : Development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.4
Stakeholders : Individuals or groups of people with particular interests in an issue or area.5
