A Revised Process for PNCIMA Planning

3/16/2012 - In September, 2011, Fisheries and Oceans Canada decided to revise the planning process for the Pacific North Coast Integrated Management Area to ensure that the process is completed on schedule by December 2012 and that it results in an integrated management plan that is sustainable and effective. The resulting plan will be focused on establishing a strategic, ecosystem-based plan.

Valued Components and PNCIMA

3/16/2012 - The concept and use of Valued Components is increasingly being used in a wide range of resource and environmental management applications. Valued Components describe attributes or components of the natural and human environments that are of particular significance or value. Valued Components may be ecological, socio-economic, or cultural in nature. Examples of valued components include things like kelp ecosystems, access to docks or marinas, and shipwreck sites.

World's oceans in 'shocking' decline

6/24/2011 - The oceans are in a worse state than previously suspected, according to an expert panel of scientists. In a new report, they warn that ocean life is "at high risk of entering a phase of extinction of marine species unprecedented in human history". They conclude that issues such as over-fishing, pollution and climate change are acting together in ways that have not previously been recognised.

The Province of B.C and the Nanwakolas Council join PNCIMA Steering Committee

11/29/2010 - The Province of B.C. and the Nanwakolas Council have officially signed on to the Memorandum of Understanding that commits signatories to work collaboratively on the development of an integrated ocean management plan for PNCIMA. Their inclusion in the PNCIMA Steering Committee completes a tripartite collaborative governance arrangement that provides strategic direction to the initiative.
